Another product recall from China?

August 21st, 2007 · 1 Comment

China is in the spot light again for the wrong reason. A fortnight ago, we have the Mattel product recall for their Price & Fisher products Now, a New Zealand government is investigating the claim by TV3’s ‘Target’ consumer program watchdog group  that woolen and cotton clothes imported from China contained a very high level of formaldehyde concentrations. It is estimated that the level of formaldehyde concentrations is 900 times above the safe level.

Clothes from China is just as good as any clothes produced anywhere in the world. They are not only good but very cheap as well. When I was in America, it was so difficult to buy anything that is made in America. Most of the items I picked up came from China. So, it’s very difficult to buy a souvenir that is genuinely American. At least for clothes, they are made in many more countries like Mauritius, Colombia, Cambodia, Vietnam and Malaysia

When Mattel recalled their products, I was did not have any concern beyond that of a consumer. But, this may be the beginning of a China-bashing trend that starts to pick up. If China does not contain this, China’s economy is going to be hurt badly.

However, many countries like Malaysia is going to be happy to take on the spill over effect.

The “crappy Chinese toys” issues seems to be crerating one heck of a scandal. One of the toy factory bosses apparently committed suicide before the Chinese authorities could catch and execute him. check this out: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/6953490.stm

Hope manufacturing / buying standards improve as as well as quality assurance inspection and vigilance.
