Nowadays, caring for the young and old is becoming more challenging especially in the city where everyone is busy working. Kids are usually looked care by baby sitters. Parents will only see their kids after work. In Asian countries, office hours tend to stretch way beyond the official office hours. It’s a norm to find people working till 7PM. My kid ends up spending at least 10 hours each day at her baby sitter’s place.
Sometimes, I try to think ahead when I am old and my kid has grown up. Will the reverse take place? Will she place me in one of these care homes for elderly?
Nowadays, there are many care homes setup to provide medical and personal care for elderly. These care homes are managed by professional staff to handle the day-to-day needs of these elderly people. The type of care required by an elderly person depends on their medical condition. Some may just require home care with regular visits by the professionals from these care homes. Some elderly people may need to stay at residential homes which provide accommodation, meals and constant medical care. Nursing homes are available for those who require constant medical and nursing care.
In United Kingdom, vital information on social care is easily available online. There are many internet portals that provide search capability to find care homes across UK, a forum and information relating to matters relating to care such as finance, home options, health and medical.
These sites are a good source of information but it’s targeted to residents in UK. Perhaps, someone or even myself, should setup a portal to provide care information for people in Malaysia.
