Cents do make sense

July 17th, 2007 · 4 Comments

CoinsInflation keeps going up. Prices are going up as well, if not faster than inflation. Price increase is not incrementing cent by cents. Nowadays, it’s going up in the increment of 5 cents or 10 cents. All this depends on the generosity of the business people. Consumers like us are at their mercy.

I used to keep coins of small denominations to pay for groceries, food and miscellaneous expenses. Nowadays, even if I try, I don’t seem to be able to use them. Prices are no longer prices in odd cents denominations like seven cents, etc. You only see these odd cents at the end of the bill after they computed the taxes.

Usually when they return the change, we ignore these ‘worthless’ one-cent coins. “Keep the change” we gladly say. Not knowing how much these little one-cent coins can be when it’s accumulated over a period of time.

Instead of leaving these one-cent coins behind, you can do many things with them. First, keep them and change them for your dollar notes. Second, you can still pay for your bills if you are prepared to carry them along. Third, collect them and pass them to charity. These one-cent coins do make sense after all.

We cannot do great things on Earth, only small things with great Love” – Mother Teresa

i actually like getting small change. that’s because at the end of the day, all my small change goes into my ‘piggy bank’.

    great way to start saving.

Starting with our dear old piggy bank is a good idea. It never fails to surprise me whenever I open my piggy bank to realize how money is inside it. Plus how much money I lost by leaving it on the trays unnecessarily.
