Conversation with a headhunter

November 15th, 2007 · 3 Comments

The phone will ring and ring and then when I pick up the receiver, I will hear an unfamiliar voice on the end. Usually, the conversation will go like this.

He : “Can I speak to Mr Leslie Ho”
Me : “Yes, I am”
He : “How are you doing today, sir?”
Me : “Very well. How about you?”
He : “Excellent. Do I get you at the right time to speak?”
Me : “What’s it about?”
He : “Are you keen to explore opportunities outside your current organization?”
Me : “errr…. What do you have in mind?”
He : “I have something that might interest you.”
Me : “And ….”
He : “If you can spare sometime, I would like to meet up with you at anytime of your convenience”
Me : “OK.”

This is how a typical conversation with a search consultants or also known as headhunters. They will meet up their prospective candidate over tea or even lunch or dinner depending on the size of the job. From my experience, the bigger the job, the place they will meet up with you will be better. Otherwise, their regular spots will be Starbucks or McDonalds.

I have been offered jobs in few countries such Singapore, China, Vietnam and Thailand.  But I have never received any offer for jobs in London. London jobs sound interesting especially if you are earning in British pound sterling. Perhaps I should try out looking for jobs in London by registering with some search companies there.

London… housing is not very affordable there. Ask for a big salary, ya? Good luck!

Probably the day will never arrive. England is now being swamped with EUcitizens :)

Hey Leslie! A job in London sure sounds cool, one of my sisters will be leaving for London at the end of the year to do her Master’s degree, I can’t wait to visit her and experience London all over again! :)

I love London. It’s nice to be able to study in London. Best of all - everything is paid for :) I had to do my MBA locally, part time and from my own pocket :(
