Dengue fever epidemic.

July 22nd, 2007 · No Comments

Recently, my nephew in Singapore was down with dengue fever and was hospitalized in Tan Tock Seng Hospital.  He has finally earned his “badge of honor” to be down with dengue fever. He is the 10th member in my family history who has dengue fever. I have not earned this dubious honor yet. Thank god for this.

Dengue fever and Dengue hemorrhagic fever are found in tropic countries and they are transmitted to human by the aedes mosquitoes. Typical symptoms of dengue fever are fever, severe headache, muscle and joint aches, and rashes.

The aedes mosquitoes breed in any possible place with stagnant water. It can be clogged drain, tin cans by the road side, broken pots, puddle of water, flower pots and vases. The best way to contain dengue fever is by containing the aedes mosquitoes.

The best way to prevent spread of dengue is to control the mosquitoes. Everyone needs to play a part in keeping the neighborhood free from the aedes mosquitoes. Drain has to be kept clean and the drain water flowing. Change the water in flower pots and vases regularly. Properly dispose tin cans and containers. Cover any water tanks tightly to make sure mosquitoes do not use it as breeding ground.

My nephew was hospitalized for a week before he was discharged. He is now resting at home.
