Is this a vacation?

October 10th, 2007 · 1 Comment

I think this vacation can be rated among the worst for me. Instead of having a good rest, I was totally exhausted even before the end of the trip.

On the first day, the departure was 4 AM from KLIA. This was bad.

The next day, we were told that the wakeup call was 4:30AM to enable us to join the one and only military escorted convoy from Luxor to Aswan. In the past, the was an attack on a tourist bus by terrorists. If you think this was bad, the third day was worse.

On the third day, we were told the wake up call was 2:00AM. We protested. It was to enable us to join another military escorted convoy from Aswan to Abu Simbel. Same story about terrorist attack in the past again. To make matter worst, Abu Simbel is only opened from 6Am - 9AM daily. When I was there, I understood why. There was no reason to keep it open beyond 9AM as the sun would be extremely hot.

On the fourth day, we told the wake up call would be at 4:30AM to visit Edfu at 6:00AM. After which, the Nile cruise would proceed at 8:30AM.

The fifth day was no better, the wake up call was at 5:30AM to leave for Valley of The Kings at 8:00AM. The sun was extremely hot after 10AM. I managed to visit the Tomb of Tutankhamun plus 5 other pharoahs’ tombs.

In the evening, we boarded the night train to Cairo at 10:30PM. Wake up call will be at 4:30AM as the train was expected to arrive in Cairo at 5:30AM.

On the sixth day, after arriving in Cairo, we had to rush to visit Egyptian Museums and Pyramids of Giza by 4PM. That meant we had no opportunity to wash up since yesterday. Then,we were told the wakeup call would be at 5:30AM and also leave our bags outside our rooms at 5:30AM. We had to leave early for Alexandria. Can you believe this? And, we only got back from Cairo Grand Bazaar after midnight. To make matter worse, the hotel staff started banging on our doors at 5:15AM to wake us up to get our bags.

Alexandria was the best. After completing the visit in Alexandria, the tour was considered over. We can wake up at any time we like the next day. Our flight out from Alexandria to Doha was at 3:00PM.

I am blogging from Doha International Airport using their free wifi facility. Eventhough I brought my laptop with me, there was no free wifi facility in Egypt unless you pay for it. And, it’s not cheap :(

Sign off now and will post pictures when I reach home tomorrow. Bye :)
