Montessori education is more expensive than college

August 10th, 2007 · 2 Comments

Montessori education is not cheap. The fee is more than that of local university. If I were to compare the fee I paid when I was in university, I will faint immediately.

My daughter just brought her Montessori school fee payment schedule to me. It cost her $1,800 per trimester. This only covers her normal daily 9-12 class plus additional Mandarin language class on for three days a week. This Montessori school that my daughter goes to is so work intensive. She has homework everyday. Her burden becomes her family burden too.

When, I only paid $450 per semester. Each semester was 18 weeks. The fee I paid covered for tuition, examination, health care and accommodation. I paid $1.80 per day for my accommodation in the university hostel. I was lucky to get to stay in the university hostel throughout the duration of my study. The cost of staying in hostel cost was about 30% of the cost of staying on your own. This helped me saved a lot of my expenses during my varsity days.

Unfortunately, university education is no longer cheap. The fee has increased drastically after the government started to reduce its subsidies to the public universities. Hopefully, more companies will be coming forward to offer scholarships to needy students.

It is crazy the expensive, before I had my twins I was always set that my kids would go to Montessori, well was I in for a shock when I realised how expensive it would be to send the two. I am actually going to be having a guest blogger in the next month or so who will be doing a piece on Montessori.
