MPO: From Hollywood to Broadway

November 17th, 2007 · No Comments

My family went for the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra Family Fun Day on 11 Nov. This is the first kiddy show for the year. As usual, Carl Davis was the conductor. This time, he presented ‘From Hollywood to Broadway’. It was a compilation of music and songs from Hollywood movies and Broadway. Some of these movies have made their way into the Broadway.

Instead of the usual music only performance, this time we had a vocalist, Mary Carewe, and KL Children Choir accompanying the music.  Music and songs from Hollywood movies such as ‘The Band Wagon’, ‘Carmen’, ‘Chicago’, ‘The Sound of Music’, ‘Anna and The King’, ‘Goldfinger’ and ‘Fame’.

My daughter, Charmaine, enjoyed this show very much as she was able to sing the song ‘Do-Re-Me’ along with the KL Children Choir. She had learned this song by heart after watching the movie ‘The Sound of Music’ multiple times.

There was even a teaser performance thrown in by Carl Davis. The MPO performed Pyotr Tchaikovsky’s ‘Swan Lake’ to promoted the following week’s concert. I have bought the tickets for this concert as well. I just wanted to get a better understanding of the ballet after watching the live ‘Swan Lake’ ballet in Moscow Bolshoi Theater. After all, the ticket cost only Rm30.
