Today, I went for my first annual medical examination that has kept delaying for the past few years. Fear is the one and only thing in my mind. The fear of facing the possibility of negative results. Finally, the day arrived and I forced myself to go to the medical center.
I fasted the night before to prepare for this medical checkup. Upon arriving at the medical center, I registered myself at the registration counter. The receptionist convinced me to do ultra sound examination as well since it was not radioactive.
Soon, I learned there are two words – none radioactive and none intrusive - that are used so often to calm people like me.
First ‘activity’ is to take my height, weight and waistline for Body Mass Index (BMI). Then, the nurse took some blood sample from me. Next was body composition analysis using a simple device with a wire on my tummy and another wire on my toe. I lied down for a minute and that was it. I also gave some urine sample to the nurse.
Next was the ultra sound check on my organs. The experience was scary, as I do not know was shown on the screen. There were black spots and lines that looked like branches. I was relieved after the doctor explained to me what they were all about.
Stress test was fun with wires all over me. I imagined that I was going for a test to be an astronaut. Test was fine but my fitness level was bad. I have to do more exercise now.
I did lung capacity test which was more like a breath analyzer test. So simple. Passed with flying colors!!!
Now, came the scariest part. The moment of truth. Time to face the doctor. Luckily everything was fine. The findings were that bad. Have to watch my diet. Reduce some weight. I have to do more exercise.
Will go back again next year!
