Juggling time between home, office, friends and the cyberspace

Sorry seems to be the hardest word

April 20th, 2008 · 3 Comments

Sometimes, I wonder why can’t people just say ’sorry’ or apologize to another party. The older people are, the more difficult it becomes. Children seem to be very good it this. They can say sorry anytime. No problem at all.

For organization or corporate world, some people take it that by saying ’sorry’ or apologize is to admit defeat. They will try to modify their words to pacify the other party and will stop short of saying ’sorry’.

Recently, this happened in Malaysia too. The government stop short of saying sorry to the 6 brave judges from the 1988 judicial crisis. In return, the government will make a goodwill ex-gratia payment to the six brave judges as a recognition of their contributions. Can money really heal a 20-year old pain, embarrassment and injustice without an outright apology?

Maybe, we should draw some inspiration from Elton John’s song….

“Sorry Seems To Be The Hardest Word”

What I got to do to make you love me?
What I got to do to make you care?
What do I do when lightning strikes me?
And I wake to find that you’re not there?

What I got to do to make you want me?
What I got to do to be heard?
What do I say when it’s all over?
Sorry seems to be the hardest word.

It’s sad, so sad
It’s a sad, sad situation.
And it’s getting more and more absurd.
It’s sad, so sad
Why can’t we talk it over?
Oh it seems to me
That sorry seems to be the hardest word.

What do I do to make you want me?
What I got to do to be heard?
What do I say when it’s all over?
Sorry seems to be the hardest word.

It’s sad, so sad
It’s a sad, sad situation.
And it’s getting more and more absurd.
It’s sad, so sad
Why can’t we talk it over?
Oh it seems to me
That sorry seems to be the hardest word.

Yeh. Sorry

What I got to do to make you love me?
What I got to do to be heard?
What do I do when lightning strikes me?
What have I got to do?
What have I got to do?
When sorry seems to be the hardest word.
