One of my toughest work assignment working for a multi national corporation is to do traveling for projects or meeting to various countries. I used to enjoy traveling to various countries around the world until my kids come along. I adore my kids very much and stopped looking forward for international assignments.
With availability of video conference technology, I am able to conduct most of my meetings without having to travel abroad. Video conference facilities coupled with other complimentary technology like scanners and video recording, gives us the same feel as if we are in the meeting place. The only setback is that I cannot do lunch with my customers.
Overall, I can see that video conference actually gives better life quality to employees and it helps reduce traveling cost for the company.

no different than making phone calls when it comes to time zones. Besides, wouldn’t you rather stay up a little late or get up a little early than spend 10-15 hours on a plane for a 2-3 hour meeting?

PP: Time zone difference is one of the biggest setback in working for a muti-national company. Doing video conference at this hour means driving to office in the middle of the night.
Wateboy: No pain, no gain, right? :)
